Seguono la Polonia con “Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No” di Konrad Smolenski.

Paraguay  will participate with a first National Pavilion in La Biennale di Venezia, 2013, through a 6 months art exhibition and a series of events that will promote the arts and culture of the country at the international level.

The Venice Biennale - that is universally recognized as the world’s most prestigious contemporary art event, dates back to 1895 when the first art exhibition was organized. It will present its 55th International Art Exhibition from June 1 through November 24, 2013. In recognition of the emergent presence of Paraguay as a cultural incubator in the art scene, the Biennale has provided an invitation, guide & support to the first national participation of Paraguay. Additional to the art exhibition, La Biennale hosts Architecture Biennale, FilmFestival, Music, Theater and Dance events.

Paraguay announces that Prof. Osvaldo Gonzalez Real, Artistic Curator of Paraguay to the Venice Biennale, had selected the following paraguayan artists to represent the country to the 55° International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia - 2013:

- PEDRO BARRAIL

- DANIEL MILESSI

The Paraguay Pavilion is pleased to announce its first participation at the 55th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia, 2013.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Paraguay, had appointed :

- Elisa Victoria Aquino Laterza as Commissioner of the country’s National Pavilion since 2011.
- Prof. Osvaldo Gonzalez Real, recently appointed as artistic curator, will be in charge of the selection of the artists who will be exhibiting in the pavilion and representing Paraguay.
- the italian architectural & design studio, Arbur Italia, lead by Arch. Tiziano Inguanotto to produce the elements related to both the organization and the exhibition.

The Artistic Curator :

And he was a Director of the Paraguayan Fine Arts School and a Deputy Minister of Culture, with official decorations from UNESCO and France.

The National Pavilion of Paraguay : The Power of an Idea that unifies
Initiated and supported by Elisa Victoria Aquino Laterza since December 2010. She presented the idea of a Paraguay Pavilion to the Ministers of Culture and Foreign Affairs. The idea of Paraguay’s own space in Venice Biennale continued and developed during last 2 years under the leadership of its Commissioner and the support of enterprises, individuals and Government officials.

Commissioner Elisa Victoria Aquino Laterza, former diplomat and supporter of the arts, education and culture of Paraguay around the world, is now expecting that the country unifies around this idea that still requires the support of the media and additional funding from public and private sources, wishing that these will be the first of many Paraguayan participations in the whole cultural panorama of the Venice Biennale.

We are honored to be guided and supported in Venice by Arch. Tiziano Inguanotto and the studio Arbur Italia. Their commitment to art and their support for Paraguay’s international art scene is crucial; added the Commissioner.

The Paraguay Pavilion at the Venice Biennale will be a historical event becoming the first participation with a National own personal space . The Paraguay Pavilion is born with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of Paraguay in Italy and particularly H.E. Ambassador of Paraguay Ms. Ana Baiardi.

Screening of "Mocracy - Neverland in Me" by Christian von Borries

During the preview of the 55th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia (29 - 30 May 2013), the self-censored version for Kazakhstan of the film "Mocracy - Neverland in Me" (2012) will be screened as a European premiere and followed by a discussion with the director Christian von Borries.
Synopsis:
Since the 1980s, this world has been characterized by four developments: the growth of political democracy, the growth of Online Democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy. Mocracy examines consumerism, capitalism, oppression, misery rule and the help industry. People become a mass ornament, architecture a tuning tool for societies, self optimizing in file. Charity is the other side of democracy, while democracy appeares as a lifestyle option for the rich.
Michael Jackson is the soundtrack of the neoliberal 80s, a choreography of democracy. The film itself is imitating democracy in a nutshell, representing a failing polyphonie. In this sense, Mocracy is a musical journey through Kasachstan, Kosovo, Pyonyong, Detroit, Moscow and Berlin, a neverland, the utopia of a non-place. Thus, the film clip serves as a disappropriation of the individual torso.

The Hundredth Window alla galleria Jarach

On the occasion of the 55th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia , Jarach Gallery is pleased to present the collective exhibition “The Hundredth Window”.

The artists in show are: Giorgio Barrera (Cagliari, 1969), Simone Bergantini (Velletri, 1977), Guido Guidi (Cesena, 1941), Yamada Hanako (Ponte dell'Olio, 1986), Kensuke Koike (Nagoya, 1980), Teodoro Lupo (Treviso, 1975), Yusuke Nishimura (Okayama, 1981), Daniele Pezzi (Ravenna, 1977), Mirko Smerdel (Prato, 1978).

Jeff: You know, much as I hate to give Thomas J. Doyle too much credit, he might have gotten ahold of something when he said that was pretty private stuff going on out there.
I wonder if it is ethical to watch a man with binoculars and a long-focus lens.
Do you, do you suppose it's ethical even if you prove that he didn't commit a crime?
Lisa: I'm not much on rear-window ethics.
Jeff: Of course, they can do the same thing to me.
Watch me like a bug under a glass if they want to.
Lisa: Jeff, you know if someone came in here, they wouldn't believe what they'd see.

I sensed a great, infinite scream run through nature, Edvard Munch (1892)

Inspired by Edvard Munch’s most famous painting ‘The Scream’, Mad For Real’s eponymous performance reactivates this iconic picture into a live, vocalised expression of contemporary angst. Whereas Munch’s screams came from the madhouse or the abattoir of the 1890s, Cai Yuan and Jian Jun Xi’s Scream invites participation 110 years later in a globalised context of economic and social uncertainty. Resonating with well-known texts of Chinese modernity since the May Fourth movement, such as famous author Lu Xun’s volume Call to Arms (吶喊) of 1922, Mad For Real’s Scream reaches across time and culture into a single, communal burst of humanity.

Rolf Bienentreu - Acqua Memoria

Portable Nation - Maldives Pavilion

CPS curates the Maldives Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale

We are delighted to announce the apointment of the curator collective Chamber of Public Secrets (CPS) to curate the first Maldives Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013.

Portable Nation

Disappearance as work in progress – approaches to Eco-Romanticism
Climate experts are divided in their scientific opinion on the issue of climate change. The recognized opinion is that Earth’s climate system is unequivocally warming, and that it is certain that humans are causing it. Other climate scientists stand firm on their position that climate change and rising sea water levels is a recurring natural phenomenon that has become heavily politizised and misused by organizations, governments and politicians with different motives.

There is no absolute agreement in the public perception of this controversy either. However, according to one of the scientific positions, the Maldives is estimated to disappear under the ocean in the year 2080. If this is the case with this compact micro nation, we are currently witnessing the direct consequences of the global ecological tragedy in progress, perhaps making the Maldives the first movable prototype nation ready to pack up and relocate.
In order for the Maldives to appear again as a nation at another designated location / land, the Maldivians are in the process of collecting, archiving and preserving every detail of their existence.

The Maldives Pavilion is a theoretical research project consisting of several public events in the Maldives and Venice including exhibitions, publication, seminars and a documentary film. It debates environmental events related to social and cultural life, to the notion of nation without territory, climate change law and environmental politics.

Artists and contributors from around the world will be invited to contribute works related to contemporary environmental romanticism. Collectively they will form a portable micro exhibition positioned inside a transparent colorless space, easy and ready to be moved to another location as a symbol of the Maldivian case.

Our notion of the portable pavilion is based on a romantic review. It reflects how artists and thinkers from around the world share with the Maldivians the concern of preservation by presenting solutions to our ecological situation. Hence the pavilion presents a collection of thoughts on preserving and archiving the Maldivian memory and history, and a visual representation of the sinking paradise.

Kaleidoscope Venice Bar with Absolut Vodka

KALEIDOSCOPE is pleased to announce a special initiative organized on the occasion of the55th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, the world’s most prestigious event on the contemporary art calendar.
KALEIDOSCOPE Venice Bar, a pop-up “aperitivo” bar powered by ABSOLUT Vodka, will run during the three days of preview of the Biennale (May 29–30–31, from 6–9 pm) in the courtyard of the renowned IUAV University, located in Santa Croce in the convent of the Tolentini church, as part of the collaboration with the programme of Fashion Design at the Faculty of Arts and Design directed by Maria Luisa Frisa.
An unmissable gathering spot in the few spare hours between the busy days and the sparkling nights, the bar will be house to music and performance events produced each evening in collaboration with a different art institution.
The visual identity and decor of the bar have been specially designed by cult Scottish artistDonald Urquhart, whose bittersweet drawings range from humorous to darkly melancholic and are executed in brush and ink with an elegant line. A contemporary of legendary Leigh Bowery, Urquhart was part of London’s seminal nightclub and drag scene. His own nightclub, The Beautiful Bend, which he ran throughout the 1990s with DJ Harvey and Sheila Tequila, was one of the most creative and notorious that London has ever seen.
For this occasion, Urquhart has also collaborated with the mixologist of ABSOLUT Vodka to create ABSOLUT Donald!, an exclusive cocktail with a summer-ish, minty flavor.
On May 29th, GAMeC Bergamo (Italy) invites Italian artist Matteo Rubbi to create an intervention comprised of luminous props evoking a parade yet to occur. The following evening, Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève (Switzerland) hosts Swiss artist Ramaya Tegegne in her reenactment of Alvin Lucier’s historical 1979 sound piece Bird and Person Dyning. Finally on May 31st, the Centre for Contemporary Art Derry (UK) will present an improvised dance performance by London-based artist Patrick Staff which combines spoken word and video to address forms of superstition and exchange values.
Before and after the performances, each evening will be enlivened by sets of exciting new sounds by three young and hip Italian DJs: Palmwine (Simone Bertuzzi), Pigro on Sofa (Alberto Guerrini) and Giorgio di Salvo.

Ana Tzarev al Museo Diocesano di Sant'Apollonia

Ana Tzarev is delighted and proud to announce the launch of her most ambitious work to date – a series of connected sculptures, which span the planet and carry a global message of love, peace and understanding.
Ana is installing a collection of elaborate and brightly coloured fifteen-foot high flowers in several countries around the world. “I have had an idea to create a global sculpture for many years. It was my way of beginning a campaign through my art to start a global conversation” says Ana Tzarev.

Southernity
