Wanderer and chronicler, Abdullah Al Saadi is considered a key figure of the founding contemporary art scene in the UAE. His solo exhibition for the National Pavilion UAE features eight artworks inspired by his journeys into the wilderness and proposes to look at his creative process in relation to the practices of Arab poets centuries ago. During his journeys, Al Saadi starts to draw, paint, or write once he feels immersed in nature. Similarly, classical Arab poets described this immersion as the process leading up to the composition of their poems. He travels alone, accompanied only by a specific book, music, animal friend, or means of transportation, which significantly impacts his artworks as they keep him company while exploring the land and humankind’s place in it. The exhibition is an invitation to enter Abdullah Al Saadi’s singular world and to wander among its unique and rich features.
