Gelatin Pavilion
Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, committed to commissioning and producing unconventional contemporary art projects, is contributing a new compelling project by Gelitin on the occasion of the 54th Venice Biennale, ILLUMInations, curated by Bice Curiger.
Gelitin: Gelatin Pavilion - Some Like It Hot
Co-commissioned by Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary
During the opening days of the Biennale di Venezia Austrian artists collective Gelitin will maintain a traditional wood-fired glass-melting furnace. They will melt broken glass, which will constantly flow out of the furnace and drop to the floor to form a growing glass puddle sculpture.
„The illuminated nation of Gelatin presents their hottest sculpture ever. Performers from all over the world join Gelatin to chop wood, flirt, play guitar, feed the furnace 24/7 and keep the fire burning. A wood fired furnace at the Giardino delle Vergini in the Arsenale melts shards into a puddle of hot liquid glass. A very big lava puddle of hot liquid glass. Logs, fumes, smoke, cracks, heat, energy“. (Gelitin)
Gelitin and their guests– Ben Washington, Christoph Harringer, Christoph Meier, Daniel Kelly, Fridrik Svanur Sigurdarson, Gabriel Loebell-Herberstein, Gudmundur Hallgrímsson, Michael Bäckström, Salvatore Viviano, Schuyler Maehl, Tom Van Camp, Japanther, Philipp Quenberger and Elin – will perform:
May 31 - June 5 from 10am - 7pm at the Gelatin Pavillon, Arsenale
Visitors may help, perform, and "be beautiful themselves".
Special guests, the NY-based Punk-band Japanther, recently commissioned by T-B A21 to produce a new piece on the occasion of the exhibition Figura cuncta videntis (the all-seeying eye) / Homage to Christoph Schlingensief will contribute more than just sounds and music. They will be jamming with Philipp Quehenberger and Elin and other friends!
