The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in partnership with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, are pleased to announce the Philippine participation in the Venice Biennale, 50 years after its last official participation in 1964.

 To offer this exceptional opportunity to a large community of Filipino curators and artists residing in the Philippines and abroad, an OPEN CALL FOR CURATORIAL PROPOSALS is hereby launched. Submitted proposals will be reviewed by a distinguished panel in the field of contemporary art. Only one (1) proposal will be selected and will be mounted at the Philippine pavilion in Venice. The exhibition officially represents the Philippines at the 56^th Venice Biennale which will open on May 9, 2015 and will run until November 22, 2015. The Philippine participation in the Venice Biennale marks the country’s significant return to this kind of platform and further pursues an engagement in the dynamic process of defining and shaping contemporary art.

THE deadline for the submission of curatorial proposals for the Philippine participation at the 56th Venice Biennale is extended to September 3 at 12 midnight.

After 50 years since its last official participation in 1964, the Philippines will again be joining the Venice Biennale through efforts of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), in partnership with the Office of Senator Loren Legarda.

Curator must be a Filipino citizen, who has curated international contemporary art exhibitions and has sufficient grasp of the issues in contemporary art. Artists must be Filipino citizens and must have participated in one major national exhibition.

Maggy Nagel, ministre de la Culture, a le plaisir d'annoncer que dans sa réunion du 14 juillet 2014, le jury constitué pour sélectionner le projet luxembourgeois à la Biennale de Venise 2015 a choisi le projet Paradiso Lussemburgo de Filip Markiewicz, avec comme commissaire Paul Ardenne. Cette décision a été prise suite à de longs débats, étant donné la qualité, la pertinence et la diversité des dossiers proposés.

Le jury a particulièrement apprécié la cohérence d’ensemble du projet de Filip Markiewicz et son adéquation aux espaces de la Cà del Duca, tout en proposant une lecture complexe des réalités contemporaines – et notamment luxembourgeoises – grâce à l’intégration de disciplines différentes (dessin, installation, vidéo et performance), à l’utilisation d’images d’actualité et au recours au travail collectif qui renforce le potentiel de sociabilité rhizomatique de l’œuvre.

Né en 1980 à Esch-sur-Alzette, Filip Markiewicz a fait ses études à l’Université Marc Bloch à Strasbourg. Il vit et travaille entre le Luxembourg et l’Allemagne. Son projet a été sélectionné parmi les 17 qui sont parvenus au jury. Ce dernier était composé de Bart de Baere (Directeur du Muhka Anvers), Martine Feipel (artiste), Paul di Felice (Université de Luxembourg, critique d’art et curateur indépendant), Claudine Hemmer (Ministère de la Culture) et Enrico Lunghi (Directeur du Mudam Luxembourg).

La 56^ième exposition internationale d'art contemporain de Venise 2015 aura lieu du 9 mai au 22 novembre 2015. Le Mudam est chargé de l'organisation de la participation luxembourgeoise.

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) and M+, Hong Kong’s future museum for 20th and 21st century visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District, announced today that Mr Tsang Kin-Wah has been selected as Hong Kong’s submission to participate in the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale from 9 May to 22 November 2015.

The selection was made by M+, and endorsed by collaborating partner ADC’s 56th Venice Art Biennale Working Group. The renewed collaboration between M+ and ADC follows on from the successful presentation of Mr Lee Kit in the 55th edition of Venice Art Biennale in 2013. The M+ curatorial team will consist of Mr Doryun Chong, Chief Curator, and Ms Stella Fong, Curator, Learning and Interpretation, with M+ Executive Director Dr Lars Nittve as Consulting Curator.

Two positions of assistant curator and curatorial assistant will be created specifically for this project, fostering and developing local expertise by providing an opportunity to work with the M+ team over an extended period. Up to thirteen interns will be recruited locally and given the chance to assist with the exhibition and experience the Venice Biennale. Once again, to supplement the presentation in Venice, M+ will present a series of public programmes in Hong Kong, building on the activities successfully developed for 2013.

In 2016, a response exhibition will be mounted in Hong Kong which will feature a comprehensive learning and outreach programme.

Commenting on the selection, Dr Lars Nittve, M+ Executive Director said, “We are thrilled to work with Mr Tsang Kin-Wah, a Hong Kong artist who has developed a mature artistic language that at once is deeply personal and has the capacity to communicate universally. His work wonderfully represents the quickly maturing contemporary art scene of Hong Kong.”

Mr Chow Yung-Ping, Chief Executive of ADC said, “We are pleased to collaborate with M+ again to deliver an exhibition by a talented Hong Kong artist. The Venice Art Biennale provides a unique platform to present the excellence of Hong Kong contemporary art to overseas audiences and participation in fact gives a tremendous boost to the city.”

Mr Tsang Kin-Wah said, “I am delighted to have been selected to represent Hong Kong in the Venice Biennale. I would like to thank M+ and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council for their support and endorsement.”

Born in 1976, Guangdong Province, Mr Tsang Kin-Wah lives and works in Hong Kong. He studied fine art at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and studied book art at the Camberwell College of Arts in London. His work is well known and critically acclaimed for its innovative use of text and language, which are manipulated using computer technology to create immersive artworks. The artist has exhibited globally with solo shows at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo (2011), Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester, United Kingdom (2008), and group exhibitions at the National Taiwan Museum of Art (2011), Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art in Seoul (2010), Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai (2008) and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, Finland (2008), among others. His work was also showcased in M+’s second public exhibition of Hong Kong artists Mobile M+: Yau Ma Tei, in 2012. He is currently exhibiting Landscape: The Virtual, The Actual, The Possible at the Guangdong Times Museum. His work is held in several important private and public collections including the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.

Herman de Vries per l'Olanda

La Fondazione Mondrian ha annunciato che Herman de Vries  è stato scelto per rappresentare l'Olanda alla Biennale di Venezia del prossimo anno, con la curatela di Colin Huizing e Cees de Boer.

L'artista presenterà un particolare progetto sulle "isole deserte e incolte della laguna veneta", secondo un comunicato stampa della Fondazione Mondrian. "De Vries considera la natura essere il modello di realtà ultima e il suo obiettivo è quello di dimostrare la sua qualità immanente-poetica".

Mondriaan Fund has announced that the presentation ‘to be all ways to be’ by visual artist herman de vries (1931) and curators Colin Huizing (1965) and Cees de Boer (1955) will be the Dutch entry for the 56th edition of the Venice Biennale, which is to take place in 2015. Mondriaan Fund is following the advice of a jury, which selected the herman de vries and Huizing and De Boer duo’s plan from five proposals.

They selected the presentation developed by herman de vries, Colin Huizing and Cees de Boer because of the artist’s quality and oeuvre and the relevance of the proposal. The Rietveld Pavilion will be filled with three-dimensional installations, including new work to be produced by de vries on deserted and overgrown islands in the Venetian Lagoon. de vries considers nature to be the ultimate reality model and his goal is to demonstrate its immanent-poetical quality.

The jury was fascinated by de vries’ engagement and is of the opinion that, in all its austerity and terseness, it will be a powerful, believable, intimate and topical presentation within the biennale spectacle. de vries himself considers this to be a unique opportunity to make his statement on a prominent international platform.

The relationship between man, culture and nature is increasingly becoming a subject of (artistic) research within the visual arts - a theme on which de vries has been working for decades. For more than 60 years now he has been developing a highly versatile oeuvre in which art, science and philosophy are confronted with the world’s, and especially nature's reality. The theme of his work is topical in an age in which ecological issues can count on an ever broadening attention from the general public.

Autumn 2014 the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam will host the retrospective exhibition ‘herman de vries. all' (curator: Colin Huizing, advisor: Cees de Boer) in combination with the exhibition 'herman de vries. no thing' at the Schiedam Ketelfactory. Works by herman de vries are also included in this year's 'ZERO: Countdown to Tomorrow, 1950s-60s' at the Guggenheim Museum in New York; in 2015 this exhibition will travel to the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.

The jury members were Hester Alberdingk Thijm (Director, AkzoNobel Art Foundation), Saskia Bos (Dean, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art), Aernout Mik (visual artist) and Martijn van Nieuwenhuyzen (Curator, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam). The Chair is Birgit Donker, Director of Mondriaan Fund.

JAANUS SAMMA PICKED FOR ESTONIAN PAVILION AT 56th VENICE BIENNALE

The project “NSFW: From the Abyss of History” by Estonian artist Jaanus Samma and Italian curator Eugenio Viola will represent Estonia at the 56th Venice Biennale. The exhibition consists of an aesthetically and dramaturgically integrated multimedia installation, which uses a personal story of a man from the Soviet-era Estonia and provides a new perspective on events during Estonians’ recent past. “NSFW: From the Abyss of History” raises questions about power, violence, persecution and an individual’s powerlessness in rigid political regimes that curtail human rights.

The winning project is a continuation of Jaanus Samma’s 2013 work “Chairman. The Opera,” which won the Köler Prize Jury award and People’s Choice that year. Samma has trained his lens on gay life in the Soviet era - when the community faced criminal sanctions - and the social conditions that influenced its behaviour, to remember and devote attention to problems yet to be solved. The central character in the exhibition is a successful kolkhoz (Soviet collective farm) chairman in the 1950s, who was sent to a prison camp for one and a half years for an homosexual relationship. The exhibition is an oneiric installation with theatrical elements, and relies on court transcripts and the fate of the chairman who – having lost not just his position in society but his family and job – became one of the legendary figures in the invisible gay community of Soviet Estonia. The acronym NSFW stands for “Not Suitable / Safe For Work”. 

A total of 11 projects were entered to the competition for the 2015 Estonian Pavilion exhibition at Venice Biennale. The jury members included the commissioner for the Estonian Pavilion at Venice Biennale Maria Arusoo, Wales MOSTYN art centre director Alfredo Cramerotti, board members of CCA, Estonia Rael Artel, Sirje Helme, Andres Kurg and Kaido Ole, World Expo Milano 2015, Project Manager Andres Kask and Adviser on Visual Arts, Estonian Ministry of Culture Maria-Kristiina Soomre. Besides the high artistic calibre of the project, the jury also praised “the exceptionally intelligent, relevant, discrete and multi-faceted manner in which the theme is explored.” 

Jaanus Samma (1982) studied graphic art at the Estonian Academy of Arts and is currently a PhD candidate in the Art and Design programme at EAA. He has taken part in many group exhibitions and appeared in solo exhibitions in Estonia and international venues since 2005. Samma's work can be viewed at http://www.jaanussamma.eu/. 

Eugenio Viola (1975) is curator at large at Madre Museum in Naples. He has worked with, among many others, such world-renowned artists as Marina Abramovi?, Teresa Margolles and Tania Bruguera. He is well-versed in the Estonian art scene, having co-curated (with Reet Varblane) Orlan’s 2008 exhibition at the Tallinn Art Hall and (with Anders Härm) Mark Raidpere’s 2013 solo exhibition at the EKKM (Contemporary Art Museum Estonia). Viola was also a member of the Köler Prize’s international jury last year. 

The Biennale di Venezia, held since 1895, is the oldest and largest international art forum in the world. Estonia has exhibited in Venice since 1997, making the 2015 pavilion the tenth one. The 56th International Biennale di Venezia is taking place from 9 May to 22 November 2015. 

Estonia was represented at the 2013 Venice Biennale by Dénes Farkas’s exhibition “Dénes Farkas. Evident in Advance” at Palazzo Malipiero. During the six months, the Biennale was visited by 475,000 people, with 27,000 people visiting the Estonian pavilion, including 4,000 art professionals at the press events. The exhibition received, without exception, positive coverage in the major art journals such as Art Agenda, Kunstforum, Modern Painters, Gallerist NY and Arterritory, Estonian press and many art blogs. Following the appearance at the Biennale, the artist has received many cooperation offers from international galleries.

Estonia’s participation at the Biennale di Venezia is organized by the Center for Contemporary Arts, Estonia and funded by Estonian Ministry of Culture.

A press release issued by the Danish Arts Foundation today states that the Committee for Visual Arts Project Funding has selected Danh Vo as the artist to be featured in the Danish Pavilion in the 2015 Venice Biennial.

Appointing Danh Vo to represent Denmark at the 56th Venice Biennial is not just an obvious choice in view of the committee’s ambition to “show pre-eminent examples of Danish contemporary art in an international context”. Out of all currently active artists with close ties to Denmark, Vo has had one of the most prominent careers on the international art scene in the last decade. He exhibits his work at many of the most important institutions in the world and collaborates with some of the most cutting-edge artists, curators, and galleries around today. But Vo is also an interesting choice for a national pavilion because he often addresses, with his distinctive neo-conceptual approach, issues of nationality and migrant culture in a highly personal manner, always characterised by his unusually well-honed sense for reading rooms and contexts – both physical and cultural. His large-scale work We the People (Detail), 2010-2013, which has been exhibited at e.g. Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, is a good example of this.

Danh Vo

Danh Vo (b. 1975) is a graduate from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen and the Städelschule in Frankfurt. Born in Vietnam, Vo grew up in Denmark, arriving here at the age of four with his family.

With their choice of Vo the Danish Arts Foundation continues the selection policy evident from the previous Venice Biennial, where Denmark was represented by another young Danish artist with an international career, Jesper Just (who belongs to the same generation of artists as Vo).

Back then the International Committee for Visual Arts wanted the pavilion to house a project that integrated and merged art, architecture, and communication, even going so far as to dictate that “such ‘experimental co-operation’ will form the fundamental premise of the Danish contribution to the Biennial”, which specifically meant that Just would “work closely with an architect and a communicator/educator of his choice”, as the press release issued back then said. The very brief press release provided by the Danish Arts Foundation today stipulates no particular preconditions or expectations regarding Danh Vo’s upcoming contribution to the Danish Pavilion.

The Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Visual Arts Project Funding is responsible for and funds Denmark’s participation in the Venice Biennial. The current Committee comprises the following members: Gitte Ørskou (chair), Bodil Nielsen, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Jacob Tækker, and Claus Andersen.

Arts Council of Wales is delighted to announce that Helen Sear has been selected to representCymru yn Fenis/Wales in Venice at the 56th International Art Exhibition, the Venice Biennale running from 9 May to 22 November 2015. Curated by Ffotogallery this will be the first time for Wales to present a solo exhibition by a female artist.

Known as one of Wales’ most significant contemporary artists, Helen Sear’s practice can be characterised by her exploration of the crossover between photography and fine art, her focus on the co-existence of the human, animal, and natural worlds.

With an exemplary track record for producing high quality, conceptually rigorous work, Helen Sear’s current work shows particular maturity and sophistication, seamlessly moving between expanded notions of photography, sculpture and video, with the artist exhibiting great command of different materials and production processes. These developments, coinciding with renewed interest in and critical acclaim for the artist’s work and profile internationally as well as in Wales, make this the perfect moment for Helen Sear to represent Cymru yn Fenis/Wales in Venice.

Helen Sear’s photographic practice has developed from a fine art background in performance, film and installation work in the 1980s and she continues to explore ideas of vision, touch and the representation of the nature of experience, combining drawing, lens-based media and digital technologies. Her work challenges accepted notions of photography as a documentary and creative medium.

Wales’ first ever female solo exhibition in Venice is led by Ffotogallery; the national development agency for photography and lens-based media in Wales, who will be working with Stuart Cameron, curator of Helen Sear’s first major exhibition at Chapter, Cardiff and longstanding supporter of her work. He has worked with a number of major artists, within Wales and internationally, to develop new work, most recently The Art Party Conference 2013.

Louise Wright, Commissioner for Cymru yn Fenis/Wales in Venice and Portfolio Manager for Visual Arts at the Arts Council of Wales said:

"We are very excited to be working with Helen Sear and Ffotogallery. Cymru yn Fenis/Wales in Venice 2015 is a significant opportunity to develop and present new work at the world’s most prestigious international event for the Visual Arts."

Wales’s presence at Venice has been a vital part of the artistic calendar ever since the country first burst onto the International Biennale’s scene in 2003 with the exhibition, Further. Since then the Biennale has provided a superb platform for visual art from Wales, strengthening its international profile and reflecting back into Wales through exhibition tours and related initiatives such as the Invigilator Plus programme, educational resources and talks.

Bando di partecipazione della Terra Nova Art Foundation - Bando Newfoundland and Labrador in Venice

The Terra Nova Art Foundation is beginning preparations for participation in the 56th International Art Exhibition, the Venice Biennale, in 2015. This is an important project that helps to build Newfoundland and Labrador’s profile and reputation as an international centre for the visual arts. For the artist/s selected Venice provides a significant opportunity for the development and presentation of new work.

The Foundation is now seeking proposals from established individual artists and/or artist collectives to deliver an ambitious and innovative project that will run during the Biennale in 2015, at the Galleria Ca’Rezzonico. Applicants do not need to be based in the province, but have to demonstrate a strong connection to the Newfoundland and Labrador arts community and the infrastructure that supports it.

In preparing for Venice 2015, TNAF is keen to build on the experiences of previous projects while exploring fresh perspectives and new approaches. The selected artist(s) will be responsible for:

·         working collaboratively with the appointed TNAF project team and curator to realise the physical exhibition

·         collaborating closely with the project team and curator at TNAF to produce or source all exhibition content, written material for exhibition panels, and any other exhibition texts

·        working within the agreed exhibition budget

The Foundation expects the selected project to deliver:

·         A significant opportunity for the selected artist/s to produce ambitious and original work, taking into account the particular challenges and opportunities of Venice and the wider context of the Biennale

·         High impact and visibility within an extremely busy and ever expanding Biennale and a good level of attendances that build on Venice presentations

·         Strong critical and professional responses from within Newfoundland, the rest of Canada and internationally

·         High public and media profile, particularly within Canada but also internationally

·         Audience development opportunities within Newfoundland that take a number of forms during the period of          the Biennale and beyond, including educational lectures, professional development workshops, and the possibility of the exhibition touring to additional venues after the presentation in Venice

There is a projected budget of approximately $160,000 for this project overall. The budget will cover all of the project costs including fees to the artist/s and curatorial partners (where applicable), venue and production costs, Biennale registration, and external press/ PR support. All proposals need to demonstrate they are achievable within these resources.

As the project is dependent upon sufficient funds being raised, the artist(s) should be aware that the project will be cancelled if this does not occur. Artists should also note that they will be asked to submit works for fundraising initiatives, which may take place through a St. John’s commercial gallery.

All proposals will be reviewed by the Selections Committee, and may result in combinations of artists that are not proposed originally.

We appreciate that proposals may be speculative in their nature, or are at an early stage. The same will be true of any new artist partnerships/collaborations. We would therefore be grateful if you could let us know how developed your project idea is when you make your submission.

Submission Requirements

Each application should comprise the following:

·         An outline of the proposal no longer than 1000 words

·         A timeline for the project

·         CV of the applicant

·         Up to 10 images (jpegs preferred)

·         Any relevant press documentation

·         Video files should be in MP4 format, max. 2 minutes and sent via WeTransfer

Applications should be submitted electronically by email, and all documents should be in PDF format. The email submission, including all attached documents, should be a maximum of 5MB.

Proposals should be submitted to info@tnaf.ca by 5pm on July 7th 2014 (Newfoundland Standard Time)

The decision of the selection committee will be announced on August 28th 2014

The Japan Foundation is delighted to announce artist Chiharu Shiota's representation of Japan at the 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia, to be held from May 9 to November 22, 2015, and will present the exhibition entitled "The Key in the Hand," curated by Hitoshi Nakano, Curator of the Kanagawa Arts Foundation.

Message from the Artist

I have been selected to show my work in the Japan Pavilion at the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in Italy in 2015. It is a great honor for me to be given the opportunity to participate in the world's oldest exhibition along with the curator Hitoshi Nakano, who organized a solo exhibition of my work in Kanagawa in 2007. Using the second-floor gallery and the pilotis on the first floor of the pavilion, I will present a new installation titled "The Key in the Hand," consisting of two boats, red yarn, and a huge number of keys.

Keys are familiar and very valuable things that protect important people and spaces in our lives. They also inspire us to open the door to unknown worlds. With these thoughts in mind, in this new installation I would like to use keys provided by the general public that are imbued with various recollections and memories that have accumulated over a long period of daily use. As I create the work in the space, the memories of everyone who provides me with their keys will overlap with my own memories for the first time. These overlapping memories will in turn combine with those of the people from all over the world who come to see the biennale, giving them a chance to communicate in a new way and better understand each other's feelings.

I would be extremely grateful if you would consider giving me a key that you no longer need so that I can use it as part of this work. Then I hope that everyone will be inspired by the work, containing an accumulation of memories from all over the world, to reconsider what it means to be alive.

Ireland’s representation at the Venice Art Biennale 2015 announced: 

Tuesday, 20 May, 2014: The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan, TD, today announced the details of the team to represent Ireland at the 56th International Art Exhibition in Venice in 2015. Ireland at Venice is an initiative of Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council.

The Commissioner for 2015 is Mike Fitzpatrick who will work with the Curator Woodrow Kernohan to present the work of artist, Sean Lynch. Both the Commissioner and the Curator have extensive experience of presenting high profile international exhibitions. Mike Fitzpatrick, currently Director of Limerick City of Culture, was Commissioner/Curator for the 52nd Venice Art Biennale which saw a very successful exhibition of the work of Gerard Byrne and Woodrow Kernohan is Director of EVA International, Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art.

Sean Lynch, who has just opened his first UK museum exhibition at Modern Art Oxford, has already attracted strong international interest and has exhibited in many public galleries and institutions throughout Europe, as well as being known for several high profile public art projects, including O’Connell Street, Dublin.

The selection was made following an open competitive process run by the Culture Ireland Division of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, in partnership with the Arts Council. Minister Deenihan said:

“I am delighted that Sean, who has a growing international reputation, will have this opportunity to present his work at the Venice Biennale which offers an important global platform to showcase the strength of Ireland’s visual arts.”

Orlaith McBride, Director of the Arts Council said: “The Arts Council is delighted to again support Ireland’s representation at the Venice Art Biennale 2015. Sean Lynch’s work is particularly intriguing and unique, finding wonderful pathways for the public into hidden or forgotten histories. Of course, in addition to its commitment to showing Irish artists’ work in Venice, the Arts Council will support the subsequent Irish Tour to ensure that people throughout Ireland get a chance to see the show for themselves.”

Commenting on the selection, Commissioner Mike Fitzpatrick stated: “Sean Lynch will represent Ireland at the Venice Biennale 2015 with a unique presentation that will gather disparate strands of our history and locate them in a series of interlocking vignettes. A native of North Kerry, a graduate and lecturer at Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT, he lives in Askeaton, Limerick and London. His work combines a narrative strength with an incisive ability to discover, research and translate complex cultural issues. Sean has already gained considerable international recognition and utilises his particular strength to forensically explore trails of forgotten stories and contextualize them within the contemporary context”.

Curator Woodrow Kernohan commented: “This is a very exciting project. I’m delighted to have been selected to work with Sean Lynch and Mike Fitzpatrick to represent Ireland at the Venice Biennale in 2015. Sean’s work celebrates unwritten aspects of our social and cultural heritage and the Irish Pavilion in 2015 will also be an opportunity to promote the wider Irish art scene to international audiences”.

The 56th International Art Exhibition will be held in Venice from May 9th to November 22nd 2015. It will then tour in Ireland in early 2016.

Ovviamente parteggio per la Trouvé, che presenta il progetto dal titolo "Implexe", curatela di Elie During, mentre Boursier-Mougenot propone Rêvolutions, con la curatela di Emma Lavigne.

PRÉ-SÉLECTION DES DEUX ARTISTES POUR LE PAVILLON FRANÇAIS DE LA 56ÈME BIENNALE INTERNATIONALE D’ART DE VENISE 2015 : CÉLESTE BOURSIER-MOUGENOT & TATIANA TROUVÉ

Pour la première fois depuis la participation française à la Biennale d’art de Venise, l’Institut français, opérateur du Pavillon français, en collaboration avec le ministère des Affaires étrangères et celui de la Culture et de la Communication, a lancé le 28 janvier 2014 un appel à projets pour le pavillon français de la 56e Biennale internationale d’art de Venise 2015. Chaque artiste a ainsi pu proposer un projet construit avec le commissaire d’exposition de son choix. Cette nouvelle procédure garantit ouverture et transparence du mode de sélection. Au 28 février 2014 minuit, ce sont 35 projets de binômes « artiste-commissaire » qui ont été soumis. Le comité de sélection s’est réuni le 12 mars 2014 et a salué la qualité et la richesse de tous les projets. Conformément à la procédure mise en place, deux projets ont été pré-sélectionnés après délibération : «Rêvolutions» de l’artiste Céleste Boursier-Mougenot accompagné de la commissaire Emma Lavigne «Implexe» de l’artiste Tatiana Trouvé accompagnée du commissaire Élie During La sélection finale se déroulera fin mai 2014 et se fera sur la base d’un projet détaillé.
